Instructions to Patients Scheduled for Conscious Sedation
- Nothing by mouth for eight hours prior to the planned procedure, except for medications with a sip of water, if so advised by your doctor.
2. You must be accompanied by a competent adult who can escort you home. This adult must arrive with you, wait in the waiting area during the procedure and leave with you when you are discharge.
3. Any change in your medical status must be reported to the doctor on the day of the planned procedure. These may include cold or flu, positive pregnancy test or suspected pregnancy, newly discovered allergy, newly diagnosed medical condition or the addition of a new medication or cessation of medication previously prescribed
You will need at least 30 minutes after the procedure to recover from the effects of the sedation. Discharge will be delayed if Dr. Ghobadi does not feel that you are ready to leave his care. In the rare event that you are unable to fulfill the requirements for a safe discharge, admission to the hospital may be necessary.
